Is my pet considered an emotional support animal in Florida?

According to the American Kennel Club, emotional support animals are pets prescribed by a mental health professional to help with companionship and easing anxiety, depression, and stress.

Should I get an ESA letter online?

Unfortunately, there are many ESA online certificate websites that mislead pet owners. Certificates are not required in order for an animal to be classified as an ESA. Instead, a mental health professional must prescribe the pet to the owner, basically stating that the pet does in fact provide companionship and emotional support to the owner.

Can a condo deny my emotional support or service animal?

Emotional support animals are covered under the Fair Housing Act and states that people cannot be discriminated against because of their need for an ESA. Pet bans and restrictions in housing areas like condos are waived for people with prescribed ESAs and pet deposit cannot be charged for an ESA.

How can I get my emotional support dog or cat approved by my association?

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL LAWS IN FLORIDA ARE COMPLEX

If Condo Associations and HOA’s have reason to question a person’s disability or need for an assistance animal they have the right to request additional information before the Association can properly evaluate an accommodation request.
